Career Transition Journey

I’m so happy that you’re here! Today, not only marks the day I submit my first Patreon subscribers only post but also the launch of a small collection of Halloween Illustrations on Society 6. I chose the month of October because it is my birthday month, so for me October is month 1 of a new year; I also chose October because, well, Halloween and for some reason the 2 months prior to October I’m most creative.

I was a little worried that I wouldn’t have much to share about my work. I can’t believe I’m calling it work! But when I I count the hours, it is work, work that was both enjoyable (when creating & illustrating) and not so much (photoshop!). I even said to myself over and over, “now I know why people get paid to do this photoshop part.” If you are like me coming from a career in business or a career other than art. If you are like me dreaming for years to transition your art life from passionate hobby to a business. If you are like me unsure (for me, until a few months ago) about where to start this transition, even though you have been creating and drawing for years, this place is for you.

I started hoping and wishing to take concrete steps to transition since 2017, but the path, the steps were not clear. Frustration took over and I let it go, not the art, just the steps to manifest a business into reality. It’s 2023 and I took multiple steps that had nothing to do with art to clear the way, not with the hopes and wishes of finally making the transition into a business but with a determination to live my life, to live a creative life and to create my life. The month of August marked a turning point and I took one step at a time, creating every day. Monday through Sunday, I spent a little time daily (within all my responsibilities), waking up super super early (not a morning person) and with each new step, a portion of the path showed itself. I wrote it down, if it left me, at least I would have a trail to repeat each step and to get closer to manifesting. In 2023 I’m determined. I’ve always been a hard worker, for others, until I finally asked, why can’t I do the same for me?

Let me share with you my artist journey and pages from my artist notebook.
