Color pencils are my favorite medium! My process involves layer after layer of yummy colors, pressed softly to build the richness and depth of an illustration. I find this practice meditative and love the end result each and every time. But also my earliest memory of painting comes from my 3 year old self, when I fell in love with the je ne sais quoi of gouache. I love its thickness, opacity and richness of colors when painted on paper. In my eyes nothing compares to the boldness and brightness of the colors in this medium. I’m a late subscriber to illustrating digitally (I thought of it as an excuse to skip the growth in skill that comes from drawing free hand). However with age comes wisdom, and it’s always wise to learn new skills. My relationship with photoshop has grown from frustration to love. I can see the many possibilities of using digital tools to illustrate. The fun part of being a late subscriber to anything is in the freedom to play!
